awlgrip or interlux perfection
I have now reached the paint phase of my inboard mako project.I was wondering if anyone has used interlux perfection, how it compares to awlgrip. How does it roll and tip and how well does it hold up? Thanks in advance.

awlgrip...best choice...
roll and tip ?? spray it,if you want the best results, rolling and tipping won't give the same appearence as spraying...

I agree, awlgrip. I disagree, that spraying gives better result, but that is splitting hairs and it will go on faster by spray.

Ive restored a few old boats, recent one being a 1970 -19' Mako CC, on both boats i used Interlux Perfection..yea ,they look good..BUT,a buddy asked me to shoot his Hewes, he did the prep..he had awlgrip..never going back. big differense..Awlgrip is the way to go, Perfection can be fine sanded..but it doesnt like it,awlgrip flows so nice, you dont need to wet sand, easier to work with as far as 2nd tack coat, dries faster, looks better. Awlgrip!!

i figured awlgrip would be popular.I have lots of experiance with awlgrip and love it. Guess I'll stick with tried and true.Still interested in the perfection product though,I guess just for more knowledge.

Awlgrip v Perfection
Have used both products many times.
Overall, perfection has a higher gloss finish IMO, but Awlgrip is much better in every other way.

perfection for us. on our restoration http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...33-1980-a.html we were going to have the hull sprayed with awlgrip by our friend. after completeing the topsides by rolling on perfection, we decided to give the hull a shot. after the epoxy primecoat and fairing we rolled on a coat of perfection. if we didnt like it , it would just be another layer of primer for the awlgrip. [interlux and awlgrip are the same paint co and they assured us the 2 were compatible. however after the ease of the roll job we didnt even get the paint brush wet, never had to tip it period. we continued on with 2 more coats of perfection. when our friend who was going to spray it saw the finnish he was blown away. and is goingto do his boat this way instead of spraying. and he is an accomplished hotrod painter also. now we were using a light color if using dark colors with a lot of pigment you will need to tip. in the process of trying to have the perfect final coat we actually over worked the last coat and it was to thin to flow out in some spots. a quick sand with 400 grit and another coat of paint was accomplished in less than 3 hours. so if repairs are needed its quick to fix versus awlgrip. 10 years ago before it was "perfection" i used the interlux 2 part paint to paint my bronco. i had 2 different shops paint it over the years and it never lasted. so i sanded , epoxy primecoated , sand then 2 coats of interlux. for 10 years never had to wax the bronco just soap and water wash. now its time to freshen her up. lite sand and a fresh coat of perfection will take less than a days work. so i am sure the perfection we applied to the boat will hold up better than the older product we used in a nonreccomennded application. ease of repair is far superior with perfection than any of the other top paint sustems .
