Why do you think the charter boats are moving to OC? The state does not care about the charters even though thay are small business owners and are required to have all the nessary state bisiness licenses etc. Have you called representive Hocker or senator Bunting and persued it along the small bisiness route? After years at north shore and then moving to sunset there is no comparison except north shore slip rates are close. When the state was considering selling or leasing to a private concern I was against it but I was completly wrong and wish it had gone the other way. Also is the state still in bed with the fuel provider? Maybe thay could be contacted and let known the fuel sales thay would miss. Good luck and I hope you can get something done.
I just don't get their mentality. They run that place with blinders on. They have no regard for the small business man and there isn't any end in sight. Moving to OC would be the best thing that could be done for a charter business. That place could be a great tourist destination for the state, but thier idea of a great business in that location is one that they could completely run into the ground. Raise the rent and provide less service. If they weren't a monopoly run by the state they would be out of business a long time ago. The bad thing about Senator Bunting is that he took a real hit when he was trying to push for the commercial lease a few years back. Back then I didn't understand why there was such resistance to leasing state property, and now they are looking to lease out our toll roads. WTF!!!Rep Hocker is also a great asset to our community, but I don't think that he has the political push to but horns with JABBA the HUT seated in her golden throne. They will continue to drive that place into the ground and I don't think that there is enough people to cause enough commotion to make any difference. Their attitude there is if you don't like go someplace else! I'm glad the guys that were able to move could get spots down in OC, but for some of the ones that are left good luck.
My experience last year-The guy running the fuel docks was downright nasty 90% of the time and not helpful one bit. More concerned about keeping his dock lines rolled up than helping and being of service to the customer. However, the rule seemed to be if you got to the dock by closing time, they would stay until you were fueled. One other issue, if several of us were splitting the fuel, most times he refused to split the bill so everyone could use their credit card. Just would have made life a little easier for us ! Kind of a pain to carry a couple hundred dollars cash around out on the ocean. A little service would go a long way !
Had a conversation with him a couple times.He doesn't fish or boat.Actually has a college degree in somethin.But it ain't politness.LOL
i actually have my boat at north shore for winter storage, for the first time and am really happy with everything, we were shocked at how nice the yard workers were, also i couldn't believe how much time and effort the guy power washing the boat spent when we hauled out, won't find that in oc. of course i'm only there for the winter.
the fueling issue sucks and is krayzie. i'm not a morning fueler and get back to the dock around 6-630pm, so i'd be pretty pissed about that. i thought the charter boats up there ran 4am to 4pm, i could be wrong.
anyway let me know if they do shut down at 5pm cause i may wanna buy a fuel truck or 3?
thank god i have a slip in the best marina in oc
Tall guy with the beard. Not sure if it is the same guy or not.If so you must rank.LOL
So does anyone know the final outcome of the pump change???
Or is it to soon to know?
If they decide to make the shutdown that early, its going to be a big problem because i dont think many of the bigger boats are willing to challenge the bay depths to get to seaside marinas fuel docks.
Im assuming that they would get fuel trucks?
Its starting to seem that OC is the place to be.![]()
Sorry I didn't get back sooner with a report,
We discussed this at length during our meeting and we have started the letter writing process to explain to the STATE why they should not close that early. This as with anything being decided by the state will probably get solved but it will take time and effort.
Thanks to all who left input here and on the IRBA website as in anything else the more noise you/we make the better attention you get. I will keep all advised on progress as it comes along and feel free to hop over to http://irba.us for all the latest news and happenings in and around Indian River Marina & The Delaware area.
