Quarters might be a little inflated! Might I suggest dimes! Hate to waste "good" money on them![]()
The value of the dollar did not just start depreciating all of a sudden. This has been going on for years. That is why the rest of the world wants oil traded in other currencies rather than the dollar.
For you to make such a blast, does not sound like much research was done on your part.
You're right! The dollar actually has been declining since the 80's and there are a whole host of issues and administrations that have effected the dollar's value. With that being said nothing wrong with taking a jab! Lighten up a little!
Now if you want to talk catch shares and other NMFS proposals, it gets serious!![]()
Mine was going to the original post. We were typing our responses at the same time earlier.
No worries here........![]()
Folks who voted for Obama to show they weren't racists in 2010 should be thinking about someone to vote for in 2012 to show they aren't idiots ...![]()

The decline of the dollar started with the NAFTA proposals back in the 80s I think....along with some of our other woes....under whose rule? Willie the cigar man....Zummie or LF help me out here..........
One has to be careful here as before one can speak to the devaluation of the dollar one must ask the question, "Devalued compared to what". Personally, I like to compare it to the value of gold.
So, as anyone who's ever spoken to a Libertarian can probably recall, Nixon's executive order unlinking the dollar from gold had a precipitous impact on the value of the dollar from which the dollar has never recovered.
Here's a quote from Wiki (I know some of you don't like Wiki, but I find the articles mostly factual)...
"In the early 1970s, inflation caused by rising prices for imported commodities, especially oil, and spending on the Vietnam War, which was not counteracted by cuts in other government expenditures, combined with a trade deficit to create a situation in which the dollar was worth less than the gold used to back it.
In 1971, President Richard Nixon unilaterally ordered the cancellation of the direct convertibility of the United States dollar to gold. This act was known as the Nixon Shock."
Here's a chart of the value of the dollar over most of the country's history which appears to bear this out.

The graph only goes up to 2003, regrettably. If anyone has more recent data which also includes the precipitous drop in the dollar after abandoning the gold standard the please post it.
Despite the "Nixon Shock" there were reasons for Nixon's actions. Firstly, please realize that all western nations but the U.S. had long since abandoned the gold standard. I think most did so after the Great Depression and the abandonment of the gold standard was largely complete in the rest of the world after 1933.
Of course, we've abandoned the gold standard now. But the habits which caused Nixon to abandon it are still seen today, we go to war and don't pay for it but with credit.
So, I'm inclinded to think that our dollar is becoming devalued more than anything because we don't appear to be creditworthy and other countries don't want to hold U.S. debt today to the same extent they did before. They fear default.
All Administrations in recenty history but the Clinton Administration saw massive deficits and correspondingly massive borrowing. During Clinton's Administration this was reversed, the national debt was paid down and the country ran a surplus. Bush and Obama have seen to it that this happy circumstance is history.

granted, I am shaking my head while I do it. Thanks for your level headed approach to every issue. Your the guy who pats the passenger on the shoulder and assures them everything will be ok as the car drives over the cliff.
Who did you vote for if you dont mind me asking?
