tournament officials told me this weekend they had just 48 registered with only two weeks until tournament

the mid atlantic tuna was down from 88 last year to 44 this year....times are tough with fuel prices.....

A lot of boats are combining crews / anglers to keep the costs down....

High fuel prices and bad billfishing so far this year but I think they will still end up with around 350 boats.

Each year we get in way early... Usually boat number in teens and this year number 30... Their site anticipates record but the tournies in Florida and Bahamas were cut by half... I will make no prediction...

So far this year the Marlin club CKO had slightly less boats than last year, but alot less money, the Small boat tourney had a record turnout (but there is an inshore division in it), and the Shootout was off (but this tourney has been dying a slow death over the past several years). Tuna tourney was down a little, Mako Mania was down a bit. I think the OC Shark was too.

I think it will be down, but will still see around 300 boats, 250 would not surprise me, 350 would not surprise me. 400 would be a shock though.
