Your bringing back some memories. Wrestled for Red Land HS (York Co, Div III) 1976-1980. Went to states which back then was held in Hershey my senior year.

We did have 2 state champs when I was there; Tim Pierce (1998) and John Worley (1980) both 105lb class.

PA always put out some bad ass wrestlers..

you might know doug garrison from palmyra ? My uncle. I know he always hated worley on the mat. I myself earned a trip twice but injuy kept me from placing. Wrestled for Lower Dauphin and dated a chick from Red Land for a while.

Your right ... Flat out PA and CA are the toughest wrestling states there are. I teched an Ohio state champ and had a hard time going past prelims in PA states.

my nephew won gold at the Pa states as a sophomore and the silver as a junior ( should have been gold, he got caught sleeping) and the bronze as a senior( that time he just wasn't there) . in AAA 140#. he was 137-11

he received a few scholarship offers and accepted one where he was roommates with josh koscheck of ultimate fighting fame. he beat josh in high school

unfortunately my nephew partied himself right out of his scholarships TWICE !! and now is a working stiff like so many others..

wrestling could have taken him far (the Olympics were a goal) but once out from under Dads watchful eye he made some bad decisions..
