The new boating mags have the writeup on the 511 bertram... Should we start taking bets on just how many they sell? I'm wondering how the recent sinking might impact sales of these newly developed models.

Sorry I missed something. What sinking ?
Eppe:
A Bertram 630 sunk off the coast of SC. The captain claimed he came down off a wave and the boat folded in half. Bertram claimed he hit the small Bill Perry reef bouy and it caused massive structural failure. Bertram also in their court defense cites that a tower was added and the boat was used in fishing tournaments. They are using these grounds to void their warranty.
I know it is a crazy defense. Even the bouy defense is bad. If you have ever seen this buoy you would laugh. A 630 should be able to plow through a field of these and keep on rollin. It looks a lot like the high flyers you see in the canyons.
Thats to funny. Tower and tournament = voided warranty. Next thing you know they'll take away a warranty if you go fishing in it. You used to be able to shake someone’s hand and have an agreement know its all in the courts. I'll never buy a production boat for that reason. Good luck if you buy a Bertram or Viking or any other production boat
That is a tough one to believe. They are claiming this PLASTIC buoy sunk that 63' Bertram ??? come on now.
How far out is that buoy. How ruff was it that day. I'm not saying it is right but if he came off a wave and took that at the right angle and punched a hole in the hull and kept running and had all his pumps fail it could happen. I know its not likely but all Bertram has to do is get a jury or judge to think is that they beat the boat in tournaments and a freak accident happened. Its not that far fetched to a non boater.
The old Bertrams used to be tanks. You could hit a brick wall and keep going.
