Anyone a Medical Dr or have experience in a loved one with kidney failure?

guys I need some information. I am getting spotty information from the hospital. as a result of a fall and addition medical problems my mother is in kidney failure. I need someone to give me the straight scoop. Is this a permanent thing can it be reversed. They are apparently prepping her for dialysis today. Is it true that if you have kidney failure you automatically qualify for medicare? she is on a very limited income. Any info appreciated, as I need answers!

Not enuf info to know the right answer. Sometimes renal failure is reversible depending on the cause, duration, etc. Chronic renal failure needing dialysis is covered by medicare, and usually qualifies a person for social security disability. HOWEVER, you really need to speak to the social worker at the hospital.....they are usually very helpful with this kind of stuff. Sorry i can't be more specific, just don't want to give you bad info. But i sure can put her in my prayers. Tom

Sorry to hear about your mom. When my wife gets home I will ask her the questions you asked and any more you come up with. She was the director of a dialysis center for three years and can possibly shed some light on whether it is reversible or not, as well as the medicare coverage.
We will pray for her regardless. I hope she gets better.

I know I didn't provide enough information originally and that is probably for the better anyway. As I have told a couple of you privately I guess I wrote this out this morning mainly out of frustration. I am not comfortable and don't like it when I am not in the wheelhouse so to speak. I have been able to get some better information with the DRs this evening and have also been able to come to terms with certain facts.

I want to thank everyone for you public and private responses and its comforting to know you all are more than just screen names, but rather friends.
