Ammunition Shortage

Longfisher is this something that was sent to you? I ask because I recieved an email almost identical to this several months ago. At the time there was quite a shortage of ammo. The problem lies in the email it reads like a propaganda email with lines like " full-metal-jacketed 9mm and 45 ACP with brass casings (my standard rounds) ". Most shooters call them FMJs and would tell you the brand and grain of the .45s they shoot not call them 45 ACP with brass casings. That is because it is 99% of the .45 shooters in this countrie's standard round because most are brass cased. You can find some steel cased but its not common. As far as the shortage itself one of the Wal Mart employees told me under threat of death that Wal Mart is running with party lines as far as handgun ammo and 5.56 and 7.62. They are carrying plenty of hunting rounds but no "military" calibers. They have some .223 and .308 win but none of their white box military variants they used to have. I still believe it is a marketing scam by some of the ammo manufacturers and gun rights organizations to drive up membership roles with the Obama hysteria. One that was mentioned in this thread was the ammo recyclers that claimed they were responsible for overturning the decision by the govt not to recycle casing and unsed demilled ammo. When in fact it was a poorly worded DOD decree that included a lot of materials it wasnt supposed to. Funny how when you look at the real documents from the DOD a their rescinded date was before the letters sent by the ammo manufacturers and the gun group claiming responsiblity. I am all for gun rights but shit like this pisses me off, we have enough obstacles from the antis to deal with without the BS propaganda that gets certain over zealous gun owners charged up. Like the individual that carried the AR15 to the Obama rally, his point would have been made with a hunting rifle. No lets carry the dreaded Black Rifle that the anti zealots are scared shitless of. Real freaking bright buddy thanks that attracted the wrong kinda press. Please if any of you are going to one of these events please carry a sensible hunting rifle, not your decked out, overly accessorized AR15 with every evil looking piece of kit ya got. Please leave it at home. Sorry off topic a little bit but ya get my point.

BINGO!! If you heard half of the rumors and stuff that guys get passed on through forwarded e-mails that I hear, you'd laugh your ass off. There's so much crap out there to get people fired up over nothing, it's ridiculous.

Havn't seen a box of .380 on a shelf for months... No the 45's were not bad ass... They had Wolf and American eagle, take your pick $75 for 50 rounds...

I did see a fresh very big stack of .40 being set up for display but didn't stick around to see the price...

They have average amount of standard hunting rifle cals on the shelves but the cheap shooting types were scarce. The high dollar ones though were fully stocked... Cant say that I notice a double dollar difference in quality for some rounds but thats the way it is I guess. I doubt a deer can tell whether its a standard 150 grain from a $17 box or a silvertip 150 from a $39 box that just liquified its insides...

Deep, those prices are insane. I'm sure the GM near us isn't selling for that price. That sounds like a money hungry store manager or something. We sell .40 S&W in 100 round boxes for $35. I think the main reason .380 is still so hard to get is because it's a b*&%h to reload.

C,mon I cant stand obama and everything he wants to do but this is nonsense. Sorry it took me so long to find this post and respond. Look in a crisis if I cant find full jacket 45's. [ I wear a 50 extra long anyway] I just dont wear a dinner coat. I know, I know, Its evening and anyone with any sense is at least trying to look like they would want to be invited back but, sometimes all the 38 shorts, and 45's are sold out and you need to find your own size dinner jacket. I cant stand obama, but saying that's the reason bullets are scarce is well............stupid. can I say that?

Sorry long deleted, If I kept all of the emails I get like that my Hard drive would be full in a month. I wasnt implying anything to you personally many people on here post emails they get. Ive done it myself its called sharing. I am a bit of a pessimist as most can tell, I tend to see BS in most things. Like I said the email I recieved was very similar if not identical. Like I said I recieve dozens of emails a day like this I have alot of friends that are shooters and collecters some are quite intelligent some arent but theyre good people none the less. Unfortunatley many people tend to believe stories like the one above and get into a panicked tizzy instead of thinking. The ammo shortage isnt really a shortage. Most of the ammo manufacturers are producing every bit what they were before if not more. There are however some unscrupulous business' out there that do try and manipulate the market both by cutting back on production and spreading rumor and innuendo. People panic and start buying up every piece of ammo and rifle they can find. Notice how hard it was to find an AR15 platform there for awhile? Now you can put one together for under $700. I can find any ammo I want here locally, not at Wal Mart, but that place is a cess pool of humanity, the management, the employees, and the majority of the shoppers. Its the wal mart mentality that is destroying America both the We'll beat you into submission for the price youll wholesale it to us for, and desire to pay the absolute cheapest prices for crap we cant afford so we can pretend to be something were not. I try to only shop there when the only other place carrying it is across town. All of the local sporting good stores have everything available not always in large quantities and their prices are back to normal or reasonably close for certain calibers. I believe you will see that within a year or two Wal Mart will no longer carry guns or ammo. Even when I was in PA in June my Grandfather and I went out and ran thru two boxes of Speer Gold Dot 185gr JHP (thats jacketed hollow point and thats my normal round or federal Hydra Shock 165gr JHP my normal carry round) and I believe they were only 32 bucks a box.
