My mother and father went last summer, and did a trip which included a small cruise ship (like 30 couples), trains, and land sightseeing. They have traveled extensively both foreign and domestic, and said it was one of the most majestic places they've ever been. They highly recommend it to anyone. They didn't fish while they were there. PM me if you'd like me to get the info from them on who they went through.
fish with Capt Sig on the Northwestern....dont know iffin he will let you wear shorts.....may be an OSHA violation....
besides....dont you have a resident bear at the Squidnation home zoo....
on a serious note...did an Alaska cruise (Holland-American Lines) few years ago....and booked an excursion to see wildlife......which was nothing more than an expensive joy ride.....they took us to some river overlook.....never saw any bears/salmon/eagles........just a few noisy seagull like birds that circled overhead and sprayed a few peeps....
GET A GOOD GUIDE.. if you want to see real Alaskan habitats
Bill,
Is there going to be some kind of Salmon bar coming? The first week of August is the best time for anything in Alaska!!!
Just kidding
I've been to Alaska twice on cruises. It is really a fantastic place. We took a precruise trip to Daneli National Park by railway, stayed a couple of days up there. Saw a lot of wildlihe including bears but no salmon. Fished out of seward with Crackerjack charters. Had a great trip. To really see the glaciers from the water, you need to be on a ship due to current regs. A lot of boats are not allowed in close. I heard they may close those areas off to all boats within a couple of years. A cruise that either starts or ends in Alaska is best. That way you get some time to explore. We went in May and july. July, early August is probably best, but the bugs are really bad. we went in May and had beautiful weather but it is not consistently good,

I can hook you up with some good local guides for bear viewing and if you want to you can come over to Seward and fish and view the glaciers. Fishing is great in July and the weather is usually nice that month.
Check out my website and shoot me a pm or email and I will point you in the right direction.

HUNTED BEAR QUITE A FEW TIMES IN ALASKA, WHICH NEEDLESS TO SAY IS GODS LAND.ALWAYS HUNTED THE SALMON IN THE FALL, LATE AUGUST THROUGH SEPT AND EVEN SOME OCTOBER, NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I SEEN SALMON LIKE I HAVE WITNESSED IN ALASKA, MOST OUTFITTERS HAVE A GROUP THEY ALSO TAKE OUT TO WATCH THE BEARS, I DON'T THINK THERE IS A BAD PLACE TO FISH ANYWHERE IN ALASKA, MANY CHOICES ALL ARE GOOD. SOME GOOD BEAR & SALMON AREAS; WOOD-TIKCHIK, HOMER, DILLINGHAM AND ALWAYS KODIAK.
GOOD LUCK, HAVE A GREAT TIME.

We did an Alaska cruise in late July. Didn't get a chance to fishbut did the glaciers, rafting, train ride etc. Didn't see any bears, couple of moose @$$es running away from the train and a few salmon jumping near the ship.
Absolutely the best trip I've ever been on. Amazing county, the only thing that was a little disappointing was all the touristy places at the local ports selling what I believe the natives call "Kitschy Ka-Ka".
The other thing to be aware of is it tends to be rainy and overcast a lot. I didn't have time to do Denali but a friend who did said you couldn't see much of the scenery because of the weather. So your luck with weather will play a role.
It was a great trip for me though and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
If it helps here's a bears and salmon video to get you in the mood:
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.
THATS A GOOD LAUGH...
