we won't do a cruise. I actually hate boats. they are just a vehicle to get to the fishing ground. I especially don't understand whitewater rafting. I spend my entire life trying to avoid rough water. while they hell am i gonna hop on a floating rubber with a helmut. hey that's kinda redundant huh?

August is out for us. The WMO and the marlin start to show up in numbers.

but thanks for the info. I will contact you as we get closer to making a decision.

    If it were me

Well since I've lived here all my life its kind of easy for me to add to this. If it were me I would fly into Anchorage and head south to the Kenail Peninsula, its a nice drive and you will be traveling through some nice mountains, it takes 2.5 to 3 hours depending on stops. July is the best month for Salmon, specifically King Salmon. If you are after the biggest of the Kings, the Kenail River is the place to be especially in July when the second run is the strongest and typically bigger than the first size and numbers wise. The Kasilof River doubled its limit this summer to 2 a day also, which is about 30 miles from the Kenai River. Also in July the Sockeye or Red Salmon as we call them are running strong and you should have no problems catching them until you cant handly stand catching anymore, but there is a technique you will have to master but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it after someone shows you. They are not the biggest but the numbers of them are huge. There are many fly out fishing places around here and they all have their own somewhat secret place to fish with the bears, or they can take you to the falls that have all ready been mentioned. Halibut fishing from the Kenai Peninsula has many options, Seward, Homer and Ninilchik/Deep Creek. Many options to choose from. If you have any questions or would like advice I would be more than happy to answer questions for you and help you out all I can. I am not a guide and do not have any associations with them except being friends with some that are locals. Feel free to drop me a pm if you want.

    This could be helpfull

Here is the link to the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game and you will be able to look at any river in the area you decide to go. It has graphs of when and how many fish enter the river on what date etc, you can also see the past years also to compare.
