Crazy thought..... if the mexicans go who is gonna do all the work in this country? Here we are fighting immigration, trying to stop it, trying to kick everyone out of the country, but once they are all gone who is gonna do all the work? Who is gonna work for 6.00 dollars an hour? To be honest they keep the prices low, could you imagine if the unions got hold of the farmers, onions would be 25.00 dollars a pound because they were picked by a guy who went to school for 5 years learning onion picking

    First off,

I beleieve GW made that statement while running for re-election while speaking to a group of Latin Americans. So while I like GW I do believe it needs to be put in its context.
Secondly, forget about farm help. Have you ever seen the people that build boats? Last time I was in North Carolina looking at all the boat builders I could have sworn it was all mexican labor. If they only make 6 dollars an hour that boat wouldnt cost so much. So I do believe its not just the low paying jobs they do.
In a democracy, open the borders. So what. Let them in. They work hard. And like all democracys make them suffer through all the same political shit we have to listen to. Make them pay taxes, obey the laws and, suffer the consquences if they dont.
It is kind of ironic however, Mexican woman want to come to this country to have a baby......American woman say if Roe v Wade is overturned they will have to go to Mexico to have an abortion. Aint Democracy just great?

WRONG. He made the statement in his State of the Union address in Feb. 2005. He had already won his second term and would never be running for anything again. Maybe this is why he was so honest here.

Immigration Reform: The simple common sense solution.

Seems like very few people here even know what it takes TODAY to get into this country legally. Bottom line is that if you have a skill that a sponsoring company can show is not done by a current citizen, or there is a shortage of this skill, then you have a chance (example: we have a shortage of doctors in many areas so a medical degree and a sponsor can get you in). If you marry a citizen it may still take a year to get in. If you have a lot of $$$$'s to invest in a business you can get in legally (example: you buy a motel or convenience store). Beyond that you are on a waiting list that could take as long as 20 years to get in depending on your countries quota (if you’re from a white western European country bigger quota so shorter wait). When the majority of our great grand parents came the immigration laws basically allowed you in if you could pay for passage here. The majority of our great grand parents would never get in under today's immigration laws.

The reality is that THERE ARE a lot of very menial jobs Americans will NOT do and our current immigration laws are not set up to let enough people in legally to do them. Businesses need these workers; people from 3rd world countries want these jobs and will come here for them illegally because our current immigration laws give them no other choice. The government WILL NOT enforce the law against these undocumented workers because government is controlled by politicians who are in turn controlled by many of the very same businesses that need these workers.

THE SIMIPLE SOLUTION (already in use by many countries)

    1. Establish an easy entry “guest worker” program that provides for a $500.00 fee to do a full and through background check. Guest workers who break the law here lose their permits. Guest workers would then be here legally and not subject to employer abuse and would feel free to call the police if they are victims of crimes. The $500.00 background check fee paid by the guest worker applicant would cover the entire cost of the administration of the program.

    2. Guest workers would not be allowed to bring their families. The reality is that most do not want to. They bring their families now because when they are here illegally they do not have the freedom to easily visit their own countries and see their families. Most guest workers would rather keep their families in their own countries as it is far less expensive to support them there so long as they can return and visit them without repercussion as often as they want. This way our schools and social programs are not burdened.

    3. Employers would be fined $10,000.00 per undocumented worker hired and the employer would have the duty/legal burden to easily verify that the worker has a guest worker visa. With this, all jobs would instantly dry up for undocumented workers and since the guest worker visa is easily obtainable by any non-criminal applicant there would be many workers available so it would not be a burden on business to adhere to this requirement.

    4. Any person entering the country without the simple guest worker visa would be subject to 2 years incarceration. Here again, if the guest worker visas are easily available to non-criminals then we really don’t want the others here and giving the law some real teeth would not be oppressive.

    5. Once a guest worker has worked here for 10 years, paid taxes and complied with the law they would have an opportunity for a path towards residency and eventual citizenship.

So if businesses need these workers and the government really wants them to have these workers then WHY hasn’t a simple remedy like this been implemented, especially since it is already in use by many industrial countries? Answer: ignorance, bigotry, racism and the usual right wing obstructionists.

Actually I was proud to have actually found a statement of his I totally agree with. You think any of the Obama haters here can say the same ?

"America’s immigration system is outdated, unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish hardworking people and deny businesses willing workers and invite chaos at our border. It is time for an immigration policy that permits temporary guest workers to fill jobs Americans will not take, that rejects amnesty, that tells us who is entering and leaving our country, and that closes the border to drug dealers and terrorists."

I think your argument is kind of like when your boss tells you, "go ahead and do it, I just don't want to know about it." Trouble is, there's 8 million at least doing it now, some are murdering citizens and fleeing back over the line, some are crashing peoples cars without registrations, licenses, insurance, or even citizenship....and flooding emergency rooms. Arizona is trying to something, we'll see what happens...the floodgates are open, and believe me the crime is coming to a theater near you.....and do you really want to incarcerate someone for two years @ $38,000 a year, there aren't enough prisons...ship them back?...they'll go down the line 120 feet and come back in.........

    zummie,

Im a right wing, and I say just let them in. All the other provisions create confusion. Treat them like any American......if they dont pay taxes, try and catch them. If they break the law, try and catch them, If they want health care.....treat them like they treat me. Excuse me, can we have your insurance card. Oh, you dont have one......step aside. We need an address to enroll your kids in school.......OK, no address we can check. They cant come to school. Its really pretty simple.
If they commit crimes, lock them up. Thats the democracy all liberals want. I say Im a right wing thinker but give it to them.
No one answers the idea all North Carolina boats are built by mexicans? Confirms my thought, all law is convenience.

So why do you think this Republican blocked this bill ?????

Wisconsin Bill targeting illegal immigrants fails to pass

"The Wisconsin State Senate has not passed a bill that would make companies that hire illegal aliens ineligible for tax breaks and government contracts.
Republican Minority Leader Scott Fitzgerald objected to taking a vote on the bill Thursday, which effectively kills it for the year.
The bill had bipartisan support, but coalitions of business interests, including those representing the state's powerful dairy and manufacturing industries, are lobbying against it.
Under the measure, any company that has hired illegal immigrants would be ineligible for income or franchise tax credits or property tax exemptions for seven years. They would also be ineligible to receive state and local government contracts during that period." (WXOW – News, 4/22/10)

Groups of business interests, including the state's dairy and manufacturing industries, were lobbying against it. Gee, I wonder who's buttering Fitzgerald's bread??
