Navel Gazing
Now that Obama has announced, again, that the troops are coming home from Iraq there's a lot of navel gazing going on in military circles about what lessons we should take from the conflict. You all know my position on the whole darned thing, so, I'll not repeat it here.
But one sentence of a statement from a Pentagon official who was genuflecting on the war struck me particularly hard. He suggested that there is a great need to quickly learn the lessons of Iraq "so they could be applied to the next war".
We killed a million, displaced six million, spent a trillion and lost 4,400 dead and 60,000 wounded...and all this guy can think of is how to do better in the next war. What next war?
We are a severely sick people here in the U.S.

LF, Isn't That
What the insurance type's call, planning for the future? I believe it would be foolish not to reflect on mistakes made. Just maybe, that's what he meant. Frank

Bachman Wants Iraq to Pay U.S. Back for Invasion

Don't worry, Michelle. They'll pay us back alright. They'd do so in spades.
It's called blowback.

Iran is the "next war," when it starts is just a matter of how long it takes Iran to take Obama's "pulling out bait" and start something along the border....to my mind, won't take long...I'm assuming they'll be smart enough to wait until the forces are off the continent....which I doubt many really will be....the Patriots and Cruise missiles will be sitting offshore...aimed accordingly....

BFB, I"d Be Really Suprised,
But I've been wrong before. We had more than enough motive to smack Iran around several year's back, but didn't. We kept pulling for Iraq or Iran to beat the snot out of each other, took the side that suited us best at the time. Neither got the job done though. I believe they would fold fairly fast. Oddly enough we have history with them back in the day. Never really did understand why we didn't "parking lot" the place back in Carter/Reagan's time. Frank

Never-ending war...
If opposition to seemingly ceaseless war makes me a pussy, then so be it.
