Abandoned commercial boat behind Wildwood Crest?
Anyone know the story behind this? It's been there for a couple of months now, I think.

Are you talking about the one moored in the creek? I've heard that they have permission to moor the vessel there.

Yep.. that's the one. Toll bridge guy said he heard it was ditched there and that the FBI was involved, but also made it clear that was the "rumor" he heard. Boat hasn't moved an inch in all the time it's been there and appears to have been abandoned. Just curious as whether anyone knows the real story for sure. John's pic of another sunken vessel in the area in yesterday's coverage of the MA 500 reminded me of it. I'm starting to think that harbor is the new Bermuda Triangle with all the boats that have gone down in the last 2 years.

RUMOR CENTRAL: This is what I heard. The guy came is grossly overweight with scallops. The commercial dock where he stayed through his butt out and he parked the boat with a for sale sign on it......of course, this is just a rumor and I have no idea if it is true or not.
As for the sailboat......there are a couple of boats that appear to have sunk while tied up in the Cape May area........

There was an article in the AC press a couple of weeks ago. It said that there are becoming more abandoned boats. No agency seems to be in charge. The Coasties won't touch them unless the are in a channel are leaking fuel

New Jersey is addressing the problem
Proposal would make it a crime to abandon boats

TRENTON — Boat owners who abandon their vessels would face fines or prison time and be unable to renew their boating license under legislation approved by an Assembly committee Monday.
Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew, D-Cape May, Atlantic, Cumberland, said he introduced the legislation after receiving numerous complaints about the number of abandoned boats in Cape May Harbor. The abandoned and sunken vessels make it difficult to navigate the harbor and pose environmental risks, he said.
“By the time they can get the boat out of there, so much of the diesel fuel and other pollutants have gotten into the water,” Van Drew said.

"Life is what you make it!"
We have about 12 boats on land here abandoned.
Years ago we had a guy pull in to the marina because he was having problems with the engine tied it up without us knowing and the guy ended up passing away. We contacted the police and the coast guard and they told us it was our docks and our problem.
