The control module is located under the dashboard on the drivers side of the truck. The encoder motor is the motor bolted to the side of the transfer case

Thanks that clears things up a bit I was beginning to think there was something else I had to check and eliminate. So the motor I rapped on is called the encoder motor, if its shifting from 2hi to 4lo I would think that it means its ok correct? Supposedly my neighbor has a scanner that will check the transfer case as well he paid aroung 4k from snap on for it, is it supposed to plug into the OBD scanner or does it plug into the tcase module I have heard both on different sites Im just checking to make sure in case his doesnt check the right stuff and it doesnt read any codes at least Ill know why.
