    41 viking 671-tibs have enough

Hey guys, recently we have been looking at a very nice 41 viking for sale. Here is some info on the boat. It is a 1989 41 viking it has detroit 671-tibs port overhauled 100 hours ago around 1100 hours the starboard has 0 hours on it.Total of hours is around 1200. It has 430 gallons of fuel. The whole boat was repainted and the bottom was done got rid of blasters and barrier coat. I have a few queastinons that you guys wil be able to help me with. First does it have the range to make the Canyon from sandy hook ? Is this boat worth it or is this not a good sea worthy boat? What are your opinions on this boat? The asking price is around 190 or 200 k Thanks guys.

What year is the boat? Cruise speed? Gph at cruise? How far do you want to go to the canyon? When we run to the Wilmington its 66 miles to the tip, the poormans is 95. We can make both in a 42 Bertram. Before we repowered we would burn 350-400 gallons on these trips.

North Jersey to hudson was 84 each way. Most of our trips ran 22 hours and we burnt high 300s or low 400s on those runs in both my posts. I did a run on a 41 Vike last year powered with yanmar and we burnt 192 for 20 hrs and 72 miles to the tip. Nice riding rig... Looking into possibly adding it to my stable...

Any way.... figure 37gph on an easy cruise and 44 if you're pushing. I dont know where you are and which canyon but you should be in good shape.

They are good enough boats...not the greatest sea boat but not the worst, I have run one before and she did just fine. Didn't have the ride of my Hatteras but is also a LOT lighter. I don't think I would pay that kind of $$ for that boat with the Detroits in it though. If it had been repowered with Cummins or Cats it would probably be worth it.

THe boat is a 1989. I dont know how much it burns but supposedly it runs at 22 knots. From our home port we are looking at around 110 miles we are prob looknig to run at. From monmouth beach New jersey. Thats one of the reasons tho we are looknig to go larger so we have the range for the canyons and so we could do some tourneys. We are mainly looking to do some shark tourneys and the mid atlantics. Is this boat good enoguh for that is it gonig to suit tournament needs. Such as range and it being a seaworthy boat.

Many people don't like the 6-71's, I love them. If you have a set of manuals and a bit of wrench ability, you can keep them running forever. They are not as kind to you on fuel economy as newer engines, but they make up for it on reduced maintenance cost of you do the basics yourself. Reliability is fine if you do your maintenance and don't overload them.

My 43 Post performs similarly to that 41 Viking (speed & fuel burn wise), and I think you will be pushing it a bit with the tankage on that boat. Depending on how hard you run it, you will be burning in the 340 to 360 gal neighborhood on that 110 nm run you are talking about (I assume you mean 110 one way, 220 round trip). Then trolling and gen will bring the total closer to the tank capacity than I would want to be.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a boat with detroits in it, with other aspects of the boat being equal, just make sure its priced right for the power you got in it.

We are more worried about the range of the boat. Because thhe overall apperance of the boat is good. With the engines recently overhauled we shouldnt really have to wrry about them for a bit . How close would the fuel be running back from the canyon .

if u are serious about tourneys like ma500

you may want to consider a boat with better cruising speed. 22 knots doesnt cut it, and if u had to run at a fast cruise you'd be eating up your range, u might be able to find an older 45 viking with a faster cruise for the same ball park price. good luck.
