The accident happened while the tide was very low, exposing rocks at the inlet. It is unclear if speed may have been a factor.
Well, the tide was low, and the boat ended up on top of the jetty. I would say it was hauling ass!!!!! that and the fact that the article stated that the two thieves were "ejected" from the boat.
Thats the dump where my skiff is at... Nothing good ever happens at that marina. Not the first boat to sit on the rock pile though...
I can recall a Roballo, a restored pretty Bertram 31 and a few sailboats eating it there... Theres a blinking red light buoy well inside the inlet that people often mistake as being the outside (north) marker... At night I line up straight to come in the inlet and use the range markers that the ships use to hit centerline. Comming at it at an angle is askin for trouble. The rocks extend about fifteen yards past the tips of the jetties just barely under the surface...
Didn't open the links but I think it was one of the fork drivers who "borrowed" the boat. Not the only marina that happens at. I used to keep my skiff and Dusky a couple blocks from that one. I caught the marina manager using the Dusky to tow a boat.
Ownership repremanded him but didn't fire him. A few weeks later I got a notice of no wake violation for my skiff from the Coast Guard. Included was a photo. The managers nephew! Again they didn't fire him so I moved my business north and south of there...
All the good marinas are expensive and long waiting lists to get in. Its a catch 22 so to speak. They should hang the pecker who stole this one..
