    200# Momoi Diamond wind on

Per instructions from the Deep, I am going to add some wind on leader to my shark rigs. while looking for suffix or Momoi hard shell I came across Momoi diamond.
The ads state 200# diam. will hold up to over 300#, good knot strength and abrasion resistence. Sounds good. If all this is true heres my question.

using 60# main line with a bimini will a Uni to Uni hold this connection together or is there a better knot ?

    Joe,

IMO if you have a spliced loop in the wind-on and you have tied a bimini to the 60 lb main line, your best connection is the loop-to-loop connection or Cat's paw. It's extremely simple and much stronger then the uni-to-uni. This is what we do for our bait fishing shark tournament setups. 80 W Internationals, 130# black dacron, 12-turn bimini with loop-to-loop connection to 25' of 250 or 300 lb mono wind-on, then crimped to spro swivel, single strand wire leader and hook. IGFA legal setup and about as strong and functional as we can get it.

Basil's site (BHP tackle) has a nice illustration of the loop-to-loop connection.

    I'm Back.
No loop in leader. Just 100yds of 200# diamond.
any loop I make might be to big to pass smoothly thru the rod tip guide.
The diamond got my attention because of its diam. in relation to breaking strength.

    Joe.
You make the loop with either hollow braid spectra or dacron. Slip the 200# mono up into the hollow braid and the loop is in the braid, not the 200#. There are many threads/web pages showing how to do this. It is much thinner than a knot and developed to solve the problem you are having.

If you don't want to mess with that, try an albright knot. It's one of the slimmer line to line knots. If that won't work, you need a bigger diameter tip.

With 60# you may get away with 200# and a short 5' hard wire for sharks but a nice whiptail will be gone We went from a cable windon (480#) to 400 and 530# mono windons they have been very good for us I have about 50 fish on 5 different leaders We started with the 530 hard mono then moved down to the 400# I have some 300 hard mono we are going to try but only fun fishing Tournaments will still get the heavier stuff till the 300 has proven itself 200# under just 20#'s of drag will break from a big whiptail sooner than you may think
As far as connections Loop to Loop is best by far

Re visited Basil. Did some looking around and found exactly what i'm trying to put together. 200# spectra with
25' of 200# momoi diamond. They are on the way to me.
If it dont fit I'll change the top Guides.
I have cable and 400# mono leaders but they are not windon. The 200# Momoi is supposed to have a breaking strength around 350# and be abrasion resistant.
Can't wait to try it our pre tourney.
While I'm waiting I'll look around and figure out how to build these leaders myself in case they work.
Somehow it's a lot more fun when I put all the gear together myself.

    Thanks.

    Joe.
