1 dead, 1 hurt in MILF attack

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Some 30 armed men attacked a farming village in M'lang town in North Cotabato and killed a 27-year-old farmer and injured another, around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

M'lang Police Chief Reinante delos Santos identified the slain farmer as Crispin Sabel Macagsaid of Zamora St., in Poblacion-B, and the injured as Noel Arac Deboce of Purok 8, Barangay Palma Perez, both from M'lang town.

Delos Santos said the victims were tending their farm lot in Barangay Dungguan in M'lang when the suspects, armed with high-powered firearms, fired at them.

Macagsaid succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while Deboce was rushed to the M'lang District Hospital.

A team led by Lt. Hands Oliver Berneaza of Army's 68th Infantry Battalion pursued the armed men, who they believed were just hiding in the marsh somewhere in Barangay Dungguan.

The attack has prompted some families living near the crime scene to vacate their place.

Delos Santos hinted land conflict was behind the attack, which was led by a certain Commander Jerry Saidale who is also known as Kidi Pigkaulan of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters under the 608th base command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
