Top Anglers Gear Up for Bonefish Championship Oct. 10-12
ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Dubbed the “Fall All-Tackle,” the Bonefishing World Championship/Islamorada Fall All-Tackle Bonefish Tournament attracts 25 of the world’s most elite anglers, along with the crème de la crème of professional guides.
For nationally acclaimed South Florida columnist and “Striptease’” author Carl Hiaasen, 2010 marked his fourth win of this prestigious three-day challenge, setting a standard of achievement for fellow tournament alumni and newcomers.
Scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 10-12, the Fall All-Tackle separates the truly great bonefish anglers from the wannabes. Only one angler per boat with a licensed captain is allowed, and open slots remain.
A rules meeting and kick-off cocktail party and dinner are set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Uncle’s Restaurant, mile marker (MM) 81 bayside.
All fishing events, including daily breakfast and weigh-ins, are to take place at the Islamorada Fishing Club, located at MM 82 bayside. The awards dinner is set to start with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the club.
All bonefish entered for division winners’ trophies must weigh a minimum of 8 pounds, and bonefish counted as release fish must be a minimum of 18 inches long from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail.
Entry fee is $750 per angler. Social entries for the kick-off dinner and awards banquet are priced at $25 per person for each event.
