Got out of the Port Everglades today around 2:30 and got bait fast today. The wind was blowin hard out of the West. I slow trolled from 100-200 back and forth. All the action I saw was my blue runner had some teeth marks in him on a very light strike. Other than that, nada. Still a nice night out there though. Up in Chicago we say "Wind out of the West, Fish bight Best". I have a feeling down here in South Florida it might be the opposite for near offshore fishin. Any input would be great.
take care

West usually has a touch of something with it either north or south. Today we had a touch of south along with the west here in palm beach and with that the fish effectively shut off... Its not til that wind gets up close to north that they start to perk. Sails will stay active from north west through the swing til just about due east. From east all the way through south, they slow down and dolphin improve...
If you go im my old reports you can see I cuss south half direction winds with south west being the worst of all when i'm sailfishing. Those north north-west days are the ones I wait for to run up the flag count... The east days are my meat days...
Thanks for the input guys, always helpful stuff from both of you guys. I have a few more days of freedom so I will put todays NW wind to the test, I am counting on getting 6 sails today Deep C, Just kidding, I only want one.
I find a lot of times down here current and water clarity are much more important than wind. A good north current will usually result in more frequent sailfish bites! Also remember these fish are running from the cold, so keep a keen eye on your temp, a warmer water moving to the north usually produces a good bite!
