09-02-11 FRIDAY: SNOOK SEASON IS OPEN!
This morning winds are blowing out of the Northeast at 14 mph and the water is choppy, but that's ok, the Snook like it rough! Snook season is open through December 14th. The Season will close again on December 15th. The bag limit is one per person per day and the fish must be between 28" and 32". Please see the FWCC regulations in the right hand corner if you have any questions regarding handling and photographing fish. You must have a Snook stamp on your fishing license in order to keep a Snook in the slot.
We received an update from inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who was out on the north jetty yesterday morning from 6:30 - 10:30. Mike reported that 4 or 5 people landed Snook that were over or under the slot but no one landed a keeper during his time on the jetty. Mike said the Redfish were smaller than they have been with many under the slot, Mike landed one that was 20". Finger mullet continues to be the best bait for Reds. Black Drum made an appearance and some were landed on live shrimp. Quite a few Snapper came over the rails for anglers using mojarra. Thanks for the update Mike!
Our first angler today is Librada Moreno of Palm Bay. Librada and her husband Leonard fished the north jetty on Tuesday when she landed her very first Redfish and it was a 26" keeper! Leonard landed a keeper as well, but it wasn't a large as Librada's. Great catch Librada!
Photos two, three and four were sent in by Mike Ricciardi. Photo two is of Mike, Tony Swiderski of Sebastian and John Gervasoni of Sebastian, all with slot Reds that were landed Wednesday.
Photo three is of recent transplant to Sebastian from Pennsylvania, Stephen Urey. Stephen and his wife were fishing the north jetty yesterday when Stephen landed this huge Jack on Wednesday. Nice catch Stephen!
Photo four is of Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach who landed a keeper Red and a Black Drum yesterday. Very nice Chuck! Thanks for the photos Mike!
Our last photo features Richard Stone who landed the 37" over the slot Red that he quickly returned to the water after the photo. Richard also landed a keeper at 25" that day as well.
Our office will be closed for Labor Day. Have a great weekend and we'll be back with an update on Tuesday, September 6th.
