Sebastian Inlet fishing report 3-5
03-04-11 FRIDAY: ROUGH CONDITIONS AT THE INLET TODAY.
This morning winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 23 mph and the water is choppy. It looks as if we'll have the higher winds and rough water to deal with over the weekend and we'll throw in a chance of rain for good measure. You probably will want to use a little heavier tackle to help combat the winds. There is a small craft advisory in effect.

We all got pretty excited earlier this week with some real nice catches on Monday and Tuesday before the winds moved in and messed it up for us. We had a couple of real good days of fishing with anglers like Dana Gent of Vero limiting out Sheepshead two days in a row, very nice! Ralph Viviano, part time Sebastian resident landed a couple of beautiful Pompano on clams, the larger was 18" and are in our first photo today. Good to see those Pompano and Ralph again!

Photo # 2 is of part time resident Michele Fontaine with a nice Black Drum and a good sized Sheepshead.

Photo # 3 is of Vero Beach's Mike Ricciardi with a couple of Pompano landed on Tuesday. Mike also landed 4 Sheepshead in the 2 - 5 lb range using fiddler crabs. Great catches Mike and thanks for today's photos.
Have a great weekend and send us your photos if you make it to the inlet!
03-03-11 THURSDAY: HANG ON TO YOUR FISHING HATS!
It's another windy day at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the south at 19 mph and the water is choppy.
Yesterday the fishing was pretty much blown away, conditions were not good. Waves were crashing over the north jetty giving anglers an occasional soaking and making it feel downright cold, tangled lines and snags on the bottom kept anglers busy just trying to keep a line out. One Black Drum was landed off the north jetty in the morning hours and a couple of Blues came over the rails of the north catwalk. Forecasts are calling for the winds to die down tomorrow, let's hope it happens!
Today's photos are courtesy of Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach. Mike doesn't fish on the weekends but decided to take a stroll out on the north jetty on Saturday and snapped our photos today, thanks Mike!

Photo # 1 is of Bijai Anant of Orlando with a real nice Black Drum she landed on the incoming tide. Very nice Bijai!

Photo # 2 features Mike Henderson (L) of Winter Haven and Dana Gent (R) of Vero with a couple of nice Sheepshead. Nice catches gentlemen!
03-02-11 WEDNESDAY: BLUES, SHEEPSHEAD AND POMPANO
It's still windy at the inlet with a mix of sun and clouds this morning. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 25mph and the water is choppy. There is a small craft advisory in effect through Friday morning.
The action seems to be improving at the inlet. As we see the water temperature climb, we should see more and more activity at the inlet. Schools of baitfish should start making their way in and out of the inlet, drawing in those yummy species we love to catch and devour as they start their migration back north.
Big Blues, nice sized Sheepshead and good sized Pompano have all been coming over the rails the past two days. A few Spanish Mackerel are out there but we're not seeing those in good numbers or size yet.
The tide pool has reopened to the public! The tide pool has a nice wading shelf for the little ones and farther out, deeper depths for swimming. Many thanks to the engineers and contractors for such an efficient, expedient job. Well done!

Our first photo today features (L-R) Dave Fulkerson of Madison, WI, Josh Clouse of Haines City and B.J. Anant of Orlando with Black Drum they landed on Saturday during the incoming tide. Photo courtesy of Mike Ricciardi.

Our second photo is of Carlos Bowden of Palm Bay with a Bluefish he landed off the north jetty last week using a silver spoon.
Chuck Raney and his brother Robert Harness of Orlando made it to the inlet Saturday and fished the tip of Coconut Point once again. The duo got into a school of Ladyfish and just about every cast for 2 hours ended up with a fish on the line. Using 8 lb test and ultra light rods, they had a blast! They saw a lot of Blues and Macks but most of the time they were just out of casting range. Chuck hooked up with a Jack that he thought was going to take all of his line! The drive was well worth it. Thanks for the update Chuck!
03-01-11 TUESDAY: BLUES, SHEEPSHEAD AND POMPANO
It's nice but breezy at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the East at 15 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water.

The action picked up yesterday. After a slow early morning, according to Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach, things picked up late morning with the usual Bluefish run, some nice Sheepshead and Pompano. Sheepshead were biting sandfleas, fiddler crabs and live shrimp and Mike landed 4, but Dana Gent of Vero really made out with his limit of 15! See photo # 1 of Mike's Sheepshead and limit of 6 Pompano. The Pomps made a nice appearance on the outgoing tide and several anglers got their limit. See photo # 2 for a photo of Sonny Advincula of Kissimmee with some real nice Pompano he landed using clams. Thanks for the update and photos Mike!
The tide pool should be re-opening within a week; it's going to be real nice!
