02-02-12 THURSDAY: SNOOK, BLACK DRUM AND SHEEPSHEAD

It's a real nice morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the North at 3 mph and there is a light chop on the water.

Good news! The Snook showed up for opening day yesterday! We received an update from inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who reported a slow, but steady bite of Snook with 5 keepers coming over the rails of the north jetty and there were 5 or 6 more than were either over or under the slot. The bait of choice was live shrimp but Mike didn't have any, he brought sand fleas hoping to land some Sheepshead or Pompano but went home without a thing! There were three Black Drum and four or five Sheepshead and one keeper Red, all landed on live shrimp. Mike provided our first three photos today, thanks Mike!

Our next two photos were sent in by SISP Ranger Ed Perry. Ed spent last Saturday morning fishing the inlet. Dave was using a small yellow jig and landed about 25 fish of 5 different species in one hour. Photo four is of a Jack and photo five is of a Ladyfish. Fun times Ed, thanks for the photos!

02-01-12 WEDNESDAY: FISHING IS SLOW

SNOOK SEASON IS OPEN UNTIL MAY 31st! One per person per day, between 28" - 32". Make sure you have your Snook stamp on your fishing license if you plan on keeping one.

It's a beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 5 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water.

We haven't had a lot of activity at the inlet as far as fishing goes, but it's always great to get out there and spend some time soaking up the beauty. Fish have been landed very sporadically. A Black Drum, Sheepshead, Pompano, Flounder or Sea Trout will find its way to a lucky angler every now and then, but it has been pretty slow.

Our first angler today is Sam Terpening of Palm Bay. Sam landed these two nice Flounder a few weeks ago in his "secret spot". One was 22" and the other was 25". Sam reported when he landed them, he fell in the rocks and hurt his knee, but it was worth it. Now we know the secret spot is somewhere in the rocks, that really narrows it down! Nice catches Sam!

The guys from the Sebastian Inlet Power Squadron were offshore for a half day last week and had a little success. Bill Russell poses with a nice Triggerfish and a good sized Bigeye Toro. Nice going guys!

Sebastian Inlet State Park Ranger Ed Perry went fishing after work last night and sent in our next three photos. While making his way back along the bank, he spotted the nine armed Starfish cruising along the bottom in our third photo. Great shot Ed!

01-31-12 TUESDAY: SMALL JACKS AND BLUES, AN OCCASIONAL BLACK DRUM OR POMPANO

We have another breezy morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 16 mph and gusting to 19. There is a moderate chop on the water.

Fishing is slow but the inlet has been beautiful with crisp blue skies and clean, blue-green water. Yesterday morning the north jetty produced a few small Jacks and a couple of decent sized Blues. Tony Swiderski of Sebastian landed one 19" Black Drum. Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach landed a 14" Black Drum which he returned to the water. Lou Llewellyn fished the south beach and won the fishing lottery with a couple of Pompano and a big Sheepshead he landed on sand fleas. Lou is pictured in our first photo today. Way to go Lou!

Our second photo features Lazaro Corzo of Orlando with one of the Blues he landed off the north jetty yesterday. Note the color of the water in the background!
