01-06-12 FRIDAY: BLACK DRUM, POMPANO, FLOUNDER, REDS AND SHEEPSHEAD

Our web cam is down temporarily due to construction on the State Park's Concession Building. Hopefully, we will have it re-routed and up and running as soon as possible.

It's a beautiful morning at the inlet. It's warming up; we have lots of sunshine and gentle breezes. Winds are blowing out of the South at 8 mph, the water is calm and hopefully the fish are still biting!

We received an update from inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who was out on the north jetty yesterday morning and reported a good Black Drum bite along with Sheepshead, Pompano, and oversized Reds. Mike said 8 - 10 Black Drum and the same amount of Sheepshead and keeper Pompano were landed during his time on the jetty. Mike had a good morning with a 23" Black Drum and a 15" Pompano. A lot of anglers were using dead shrimp, clams and sand fleas. The monster Reds were landed on lures, they looked like large bucktails. Inlet regular Alberto Morales landed a huge 44" Red that was released immediately. Alberto's largest to date is 47" and he is hoping to beat that record! Thanks for the update Mike!

Our first photo today features Laura Kissee of Melbourne Beach. Laura and her brother Dan, both of Melbourne Beach went out on the 29th and landed some real nice catch and release Reds at the mouth of the inlet using pinfish that were also caught at the inlet. What a great catch Laura!

Our last photo is of Jamel Mitchell of Orlando. Jamel landed his Pompano using live shrimp. Nice catch Jamel!

We have another great weekend forecasted, have a good one and send in your photos and updates!

Saturday night the Sebastian Inlet State Park will host its Night Sounds Concert featuring "Velveeta Underground", a band that intertwines classic rock, country, blues and folk on a journey through the past. The concert will take place on the south side of the inlet at the Coconut Point Pavilions from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The concert is free but Park admission fees apply. Sounds like a great time!

01-05-12 THURSDAY: BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, FLOUNDER, REDS, AND POMPANO

We have another cool but beautiful morning at the inlet. Temperatures are in the 40's but we have lots of sunshine and light breezes. Winds are blowing out of the North-Northwest at 5 mph and there is a light chop on the water.

Fishing has been good. We received an update from Art V. who was at the inlet yesterday and reported a good bite for Pompano and Flounder on the south side and Reds on the north side. Thanks Art! Tommy Turowski with the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported Sheepshead, Black Drum, Pompano from the north jetty as well. Lots of diving birds have been active which means there's baitfish in the water.

Our first photo today is of inlet regular Mike Ricciardi with a real nice 28" Black Drum he landed off the north jetty last Thursday. Nice catch Mike!

Our second photo today features another one of our inlet regulars, Diane Buyce of Melbourne with two good sized Black Drum and a nice Pompano landed Thursday off the north jetty. Great job Diane!

Photo five is of good Samaritans Diane Buyce and John Rhodes unhooking a bird that went after bait that was cast in the water. Fortunately, the unidentified angler on the left reeled the bird in so that it could have the hook taken out. Great job to all three of you!! If you find yourself in that situation, reel the bird in and somebody on the jetty will know what to do, if the line is cut there is little chance of the bird surviving with a hook in its beak or wing.

Send in your photos and updates!

01-04-12 WEDNESDAY: BLACK DRUM, REDS, SHEEPSHEAD AND JACKS

Temperatures are still in the 40's this morning but we expect to see it rise into the low 60's today, a lot better than yesterday! The winds have calmed down quite a bit as well. This morning winds are blowing out of the North-Northwest at 8 mph and the water is calm.

We didn't have many anglers out on the jetties yesterday but we received an update from Benjie Vasquez who reported a few die-hard anglers battling the cold with their waders and multiple layers of clothing on the north jetty yesterday. Those who had the guts to go out landed Black Drum, C/R Reds, Jacks and Sheepshead. Thanks for the update and photo Benjie!

Jon Nunez of St. Cloud was also one of the anglers out battling the wind and cold yesterday when he landed his first big fish off the north jetty yesterday! Great job Jon!

Our third photo today features George Katilus IV of Indian River Shores. George and his dad, George III took their boat to the inlet on Friday and reported some tough going on the incoming tide so they decided to anchor up for the outgoing. The duo landed Bluefish, a Black Tip Shark, a C/R Pelican and two beautiful C/R Reds on pinfish. They lost a few to break-offs. Very nice! If you accidentally hook a bird, never cut the line, reel it in and unhook it. The bird's survival rate is very low with a hook left in its wing or beak. Good job Katilus men!

Our next two photos were taken last Thursday of a couple of buddies fishing the south catwalk. Bill Neville is featured in our fourth photo with a nice Sheepshead he landed on live shrimp. Jim Jackson is featured in our last photo with another Sheepshead and a Perch. The two men had a cooler full of nice Sheepshead but they seemed to be the only ones landing anything from the catwalk that day....sometimes you have the luck and sometimes you don't......nice going guys!
