02-01-11 TUESDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUEFISH AND BLACK DRUM

It's going to be a gorgeous day at the inlet today. This morning winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 6 mph and the water is calm. Temperatures will rise into the high 70's today, making it feel like spring is here already!

The north jetty was on the slow side again yesterday with some small and keeper Spanish Mackerel, Blues and a few Black Drum coming over the rails. Night anglers have had pretty good success with oversized Reds and Snook as you can see in our first photo today. Rob Vaughn of Palm Bay landed his oversized Red in the wee hours of Sunday morning using a bucktail. Nice catch Rob!

We received a rare offshore report from Bill Russell of Sebastian who went out yesterday in 80 feet of water, he and his buddy Ray cleaned up on the Sea Bass. Bill said the action was non-stop all afternoon and the men headed back to port with 30 large sea bass landed on 3" DOA shrimp, squid and cut up Bluefish. Bill didn't take any photos but sent us one of his grandson Steven who landed his Sea Bass on Sunday. Nice fishing gentlemen, thanks for the update Bill!

01-31-11 MONDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUES, BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD,SNOOK AND REDS

It's a little overcast at the inlet this morning but it's very nice. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 8 mph and the water is nice and calm. We are aware that the web cam is down and we are addressing the problem.

We had a beautiful weekend although fishing was just so-so. Small and a few keeper Spanish Mackerel and a smattering of Black Drum, Pompano, Sheepshead and Flounder came over the rails. Evening anglers did better with oversized Reds and catch and release Snook.

We received an update from inlet regular Mike Ricciardi on Friday's activities on the north jetty. Mike reported a fairly slow morning with Spanish Macks being landed on Gotcha lures and spoons, a few Blues and Black Drum and quite a few Catfish. Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach landed a real nice Sheepshead and Mike and Rich Blum of Vero Beach both landed two Black Drum using a combo of clams and shrimp. Very nice gentlemen! Thanks for the photo and update Mike!
