Mixed bag on the Bay for the Jersey boys

Fishing buddies and SeaSquared regulars, Yechiel Malich and George Kicak, from Lakewood NJ, took a break from the Fantasy Fest goings-on to land a few nice fish.

With the wind whipping a bit, we hit the calmer waters of Florida Bay and fished a couple of wrecks.

The guys put together a nice haul of mangrove snapper, Spanish and cero mackerel along with a bonus 26-inch gag grouper.

They wanted to get out again during their stay, but the winds kept us at the dock, giving them more time for their Fantasy Fest partying!

he Wilkinson family just had to try their hand at fishing during their first trip to Marathon and the Florida Keys.

Andrew, Samantha, Harrison and Tom spent a lovely half day fishing for dinner in Florida Bay and at the Seven Mile Bridge.

The rods were bent non-stop and the gang must have caught a couple hundred fish, but they kept just enough mangrove and yellowtail snapper to have for dinner on their last night in the Keys.

Samantha summed it up best …

“Fantastic trip – kept our boys fully entertained (which is not easy!).”

Don and Marcia Atwell, from Kannapolis NC, fished until their arms just wouldn’t work anymore!

With no particular species as our target, rather to catch a good variety of fun-fighting fish, we headed to some of my favorite Gulf wrecks 12 to 18 miles from the dock.

Don and Marcia had success on every cast. They caught gag and Goliath grouper, mangrove and mutton snapper, Spanish mackerel, three- to seven-pound jack crevalle and more.

Perhaps the highlight of the trip was hooking up to a few spinner sharks. These critters never disappoint with their show of jumping and spinning in the air until they break the line. Always entertaining!

After the last of her spinner sharks, Marcia sat down and declared she had had enough! Don kept on until it was time to head in.
