Sea squared Charters, Marathon 9-5
On their second day of shark fishing, Thane and Jake Forthman wanted to catch a lemon larger than the 87-incher they caught on Monday.

Mission accomplished! Jake caught a massive 7′ 5″ (total 90 inches) female lemon shark.

During our outing on Monday, we observed this shark among the fish that came to our feast. She must have known it was Jake’s birthday wish to land her.

Jake named her Queen Elizabeth.

The pair went on to catch a few more lemons before the outer rain bands of Hurricane Irene moved in and it was time to head back to the dock.

To celebrate two days of awesome father-son shark fishing in the Florida Keys, Thane ordered a mount of Jake’s big shark from Gray Taxidermy. She’s going to make quite the trophy on the wall back home in Simpsonville SC!

We’re looking forward to having Thane and Jake back in December for sailfish and May for more sharks, tarpon, snapper and grouper!
SeaSquared Charters practices 100% catch-and-release shark fishing using non-harmful circle hooks. All sharks are released unharmed.

Mark & Laura were selective in what they kept
Posted on August 24, 2011 by Editor
Mark and Laura Wesselmann chose to keep only the largest yellowtail snapper they caught.
Traveling all the way from Carlsbad CA for the fourth year in a row, the Wesselmanns enjoy the use of the rental boat that comes with their accommodations at Rainbow Bend Resort. This year, they decided they wanted to venture out a bit so they chartered SeaSquared for a half day trip to the reef.
The yellowtail bite was very good, and the pair easily could have kept their limit. Instead, they kept only fish in the 15-inch and up class – about 17 of them – and threw back all the smaller keepers measuring 12 and 13 inches.
They also landed a bonus three-pound mangrove snapper. Lots of good eating!
