    Permit are quite a fish!

My wife and I were able to spend last week in Stuart Fl. In between doing some sightseeing, buying gifts for the grandkids, drinking fresh squeezed OJ, and playing a load of golf, I got a chance to fish a couple hours with Greg Bogdan out of West Palm. He is a great captain and definitely knows his nstuff. We went out the inlet, turned and went about 100 yards off the end of the jetty , and dropped a light jig with a shrimp down on the fish we could see on the Raymarine C series that he swears by. Before long, we had cayght a 15 lb. permit and then it was my turn. We hooked up another and he simply had his way for about 10 minutes, running off 150 yds of Sufix 50 lb. braid. i had the drag screwed down somw as you see in this picture.

After a load of runs especially when I thought that he was whipped, we grabbed his tail and swung him into the boat. I held him up in one hand and he wa more than a handful as you can see.

That is the first permit I have caught and he was a real beast! they fight like a tuna and makke dogged runs that do test the drag of any reel. My quantum Cabo baitcaster did the job and I released the fish to fight again.

We slid off and set a kite for a few minutes but Greg had to get back in to fish Swordies that night. I had a great time, wore out my left hand and got some memories that i shall not forget. If you are ever down in that area, give Greg a call. He sails from Sailfish MArina and he specializes in light tackle fishing from sails to bottom fish. You will not be disappointed

Greg has permit dna running through him! I've been guiding for near 30 years and all of my permit have been by accident. Guiding for bonefish, or stubling on a wreck... He lives and breathes the buggers... I have sat on a rock pile we have here and fish the exact same way as him (or so it would seem) he pulls up not fully 25 yards away and takes ten to our two... Thats happened on more than a few occasions...
Glad to see you got em...

If you like seeing buildings that close for permit you'ld really love that we start catching sailfish only a few hundred meters from there...

Awesome fish. They are on my list to fish for. I like how in florida you can catch many species and run short distances.
