Guides Day Off, Lets Go Fishing!
September 2, 2011 by Capt. Chris

So what do two guides do when they finally have a day off? Go fishing of course. Capt. Tommy and I both had days off and were biting at the bit to go fish for tailing redfish. We loaded up the Hell’s Bay with light tackle and fly rods and went to fish Palm Coast’s shallow flats where the tails were waving us in. I played with the camera while Tommy casted the fly rod at multiple tailing redfish and sheapheads. We ended with a dozen or so reds both caugth on fly and artificial lures.

This past saturday we had hurricane Irene passed just off our coast and with that passing Irene brought us good surf and extremely high tides. When the tides get this high we hit the shallows looking for tailers and Mike and Mike jr. found plenty of them. Mike jr. had the hot hand early as he was reeling them in!

We mostly used artificial lures like Fishbites Extreme jerkbaits on Slayer Inc. predator hooks.

Mike got the big one of the day as this slob was doing head stands before eating a perfectly place jerkbait in his face!

Another great day of fishing Palm Coast as Jim and I set out for a half day charter to help him learn and area he has been scoping out. We started the day dock light fishing catching some trout then headed to the shallows where we soaked our baits. It didn’t take long before the first pole started to bend and Jim was hooked up but during his battle the other rod went as well. After landing the first redfish Jim started working on the other which he landed as well. Both fish were oversize and put up a great fight so after a quick picture they were released to battle another day.
