Mosquito Lagoon Fishing report 9-19
September 2010
The long hot days of summer heat is still here, and so is the great fishing in Central East Florida. Redfish, sea trout, and black drum provide the most action inside the Mosquito lagoon. On most days my clients have had encountered big schools of bull redfish. Now that the spawn is over these fish are hungry and willing to eat just about anything you throw at them. Top water baits have proven to be effective at first light for these large redfish on the shallow flat's. The fall mullet run is in full swing and bait pods have invaded the inshore flat's. I look forward to some of the best top water fishing for the next couple of months. The larger sea trout will be found in the same area's as the redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon. The cooler weather is about to set in sending the fish into their fall pattern. As the water temps start to drop the water will begin to clear up and sight fishing becomes excellent!
The Indian River Lagoon has been holding it's fair share of snook, tarpon, and flounder. This past week anglers have landed flounder in the 3-6 pound range in the back waters on live finger mullet. Snook continue to roam the shallow mangroves in search of prey. As the bait get's thicker we will see some great action and our best odd's of a grand slam. Grouper start to move into the flat's and channels. Night fishing has still been on fire with good numbers of snook and sea trout are stacked up on the docks and sea walls waiting to ambush the pod's of mullet making their way south. The snook know it's time to chew and chew hard to get ready for the winter. Let's prey we don't have a repeat winter this year!
