A fishing trip for two Miami friends turned deadly when their boat filled with water and capsized Wednesday night in rough waters off Ocean Reef in the Upper Keys.
I've got a 19 Aquasport and as a mater of fact ran it out of Ocean Reef from 1976 to 1986 and several trips down since. Fished it in 6-8' plenty of times... Pounds like a biyatch but stable... Hell I've had ten footers even try to play with me and still no issue...
The sudden fill up puzzles me. Unless they had an open inspection hatch and shipped a wave or went without a drain plug its hard to get water in em.... Even then it puzzles me... I have had the entire drain plug fitting faul and filled her up good. They have positve flotation. Water anke deep to the helm she never lost stability...
Only nine degrees of deadrise is pretty damn flat and hard to turn over... Water off Ocean reef is sheltered until the edge. If they were over the edge they could get 6', inside of that 2' is about max. Something aint right...
The Aquasport drifts stern to. So unless its anchor was dragging or let go its not likely that they got broadsided and rolled... Hmmmmm
