Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report, Fishing Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale. Florida is known as the Sunshine State and the last few days have not been an exception to that label. Beautiful, basically cloudless days and a high in the mid seventies to almost eighty for two days now. Postcard perfect weather for any outdoor activity and fishing is certainly the tops on our list. On the big fish side we have managed a couple of Sailfish and several Sharks including a Tiger, a Bull and Hammerheads. Our Bull and Tiger Sharks were caught in approximately 100 feet of water. The Hammerhead Sharks came out of 350 feet of water. Both the Bull and Tiger Sharks ate baits fished on the bottom. The Hammerheads ate surface, mid depth baits (fished about 200 feet below the surface) and also that bottom bait mentioned before, which shows it is good to cover all the depths and a full spread of baits at all depth levels is always the way to seriously target El Tiburon. We are having some good days with Blackfin Tunas. They are mostly in water from 150 to 300 feet. There are some really big Bonito mixed in with these Blackfins. Kingfish are again biting on the reefs and the best depth has been between 80 and 100 feet and a deep line has been the most productive way to take these Kings. Pictured is Steve who fished with us today holding a decent King he caught on a deep line. As you can see the box is full. There are some decent sized ( up to 35#) Amberjacks holding on the deeper shipwrecks and live bait is best for these fish. No Wahoo for us as our last two tries targeting them only resulted in large Bonitos. While these fish can pull like the Devil himself they weren’t exactly what we had in mind. Right now fishing in Ft. Lauderdale is everything Florida (the Sunshine State) is supposed to be.
