Ft. Lauderdale fishing is showing signs of coming out of the doldrums as catches are improving for all species. The last few days were slow. Kingfish are again biting on the inside reefs in about 60 to 80 feet of water. Most fish are small, but there are some decent fish in the area also. Live bait is the key to getting bit by the larger fish as usual. Loads of small Bullet Bonito are here and they are a favorite bait of ours for the larger Kings and just about anything else as well. We had a decent showing of Wahoo just off the edge of the reef and these small Bonito got a lot of attention from the Wahoo, with good bites by trolling dead baits as well. Sailfishing has been erratic but has much improved the last two days with fish swimming to the south and tight to the reef line. Dead baiting has drawn some fish to the spread, but live baiting has taken center stage for the Sails now. It’s hard to beat a kite spread full of Goggle Eyes but those little Bullet Bonito can get the Sailfish reckless and have the advantage of drawing bites from (and easier hook ups) on the Kings and Wahoo. Pictured is 1st mate Lawrence and a nice Sail at boat side caught on a beautiful day for Ft. Lauderdale fishing by the Johnson family that I took from the bridge aboard Marlin My Darlin. The weather has been warmer than the norm, a little too warm for me, but just right for most. They are calling for a high of 82 degrees on Thursday. The wind is blowing again and the Sails should be hungry and aggressive. We’ll see.
