Marlin My Darlin fishing report 8-21
Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report, Fishing Charters in Ft. Lauderdale Reef Action

A lot of our fishing continues to take place on top of or in the immediate vicinity of the outer reef (3rd pronounced offshore reef line here). We have been catching so many Bonito on our fishing charters in Ft. Lauderdale that we have begun removing the hook and releasing more and more of them after the catch. Bonito are very important to us for one because they are strong fish and usually willing to bite when we find them offshore, which makes a lot of anglers happy. Secondly we keep lots of them because we cut and shape strip baits out of their sides ( one mature Bonito yields about 10 to 12 baits) as many of you know. A properly thinned and shaped Bonito strip will out fish most rigged bait presentations on many days. And we go through thousands of baits in the course of the year. Right now they remain hot and heavy, but will slow down dramatically within the next couple of weeks. Pictured are Seth, friends, and his boys Stetson and Jeff with some Bonitos and King we kept on a half day charter. We are enjoying pleasant calm days on the ocean, but it can be a bit warm until the breeze comes up as it does by mid morning on most days. Occasional showers, but the majorities are inland and not hindering us at all out on the ocean.

Today we had Jeff, Mike, Suzie and Carolyn who made the short drive up from Miami to join us aboard the Marlin My Darlin for what was on Jeff’s bucket list, a Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing trip. #1 on that list was a shark. An inshore fishing trip was taken yesterday for Trout and Reds down in Biscayne Bay, which lies just below Miami. Tomorrow it’s snorkeling. Today it was offshore fishing here in Ft. Lauderdale. They are covering all their outdoor saltwater based activities for sure. As Jeff said, “ There are no Sharks in Colorado.” Snow skiing and beautiful mountains as he pointed out, but no sharks. Sharks, especially Hammerhead Sharks, are a little tougher to come by now as the prime time for Hammerheads and also many of our larger sharks has now passed. But this is South Florida and there are sharks in our waters all year. Fishing was good today with those summer Bonito bending the rods with regularity. We also had a Tuna and five Kingfish. Everybody got to reel in a saltwater fish and then we stepped it up a notch and put out the shark spread. They especially liked the part of using a five pound Bonito for bait. That nice Hammerhead in the photo was released at boat side after removing the hook likes five pound Bonito too. A Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Trip, a Biscayne Bay inshore trip, a snorkeling trip. No grass grows under their feet. Thanks. We had fun too.
