Marathon Florida Keys Fishing Report: California family discovers Keys fishing fun

While researching her family’s Florida Keys vacation, Karine Boeykens came across the SeaSquared Charters family fishing website. She booked a half day charter for herself, her husband Bert Bruggeman, and their children Maarten and Charlotte.
The weather this week has been challenging, to say the least, with cool temps and plenty of wind. I took the Bruggeman-Boeykens family to some near shore wrecks in the calm bay waters as well as to the Seven Mile Bridge. The crew put together a limit of tasty mangrove snapper in the 16-inch class along with some Spanish mackerel.

jeff Sutton treated his family, from Boone NC, to some great Florida Keys fishing during their Christmas vacation.
Since it was the last day of grouper season 2010, we first headed to a couple of my wreck spots in Florida Bay looking for gag grouper. The water was too cold for the gags, but we did put together a nice mess of Spanish mackerel.
We then ran back in to the Seven Mile Bridge, where the crew proceeded to put the hurt on the mangrove snapper. They must have easily caught a couple hundred fish, keeping their limit of nice specimens in the 14- to 16-inch range.
They enjoyed their mangrove snapper cooked at Salty’s Waterfront Grill at the 7 Mile Marina. I smoked 12.5 pounds of mackerel for them and shipped it back to Boone for them to enjoy with family and friends.
The crew included Jeff, his wife Linda, sons Kevin and Michael and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Ashley Miller.
