Wow, leaving the dock was kinda questionable yesterday but putting faith into the weather maps i was studying all day payed off and it turned out to be a beautiful night on the water! Last night myself and Capt. Jason Naedel had the Mike Driscol charter out from New Jersey with flat calm seas. Waves were 2' or less as we set our spread out and the action started right around 7 with a 50" fish slamming the tip rod down 125'. While I was letting him chill out on the gaff the middle rod started ripping line and we are tight again. A brief battle brings a nice 48" fish to the boat that we decide to release. Get the spread back out and around 7:30 tip rod gets hit again. Cranked the bait up and a nice 100lber is in hot pursuit! Put a fresh bait on and she decided to do everything to the squid except eat it, BTW the fish torn up 5 squid next to the boat! finally the fish got wrapped in the leader and took off with getting hooked. Not 5 minutes later the long balloon tips over and we get tight. We got Charlie strapped into the harness and he started pulling on a decent fish, but it was short lived as the hook pulled about 10 minutes later. No marks on the leader, my guess is it was probably foul hooked.
Anyway we consistently had bites until 10:30 but they got a lot less aggressive and didn't get a hook in any of them. It was like the would swat and leave not interested in finishing the job!!!
