Question Kite Fishing off of Beach or Jetty??

Has anyone tried it? May be a lil more difficult off the jetty so the kite rod doesn't go a skippin across the water. I have a couple places down here on the outer banks where I want to give it a try. I have the set up, just trying to decide how to secure the rods....Any suggestions or comments accepted!!!

I have thought about that at OI or off piers 100 times. To answer your question, yes it is done all the time (in New Zealand).

I saw an article a long time ago about someone doing it in the keys for tarpon while wading. I couldn't find it though. It was in Florida Sportsman I think.

I guess that wasn't much help huh.

I've been reading and looking for kite fishing info and pictures and it looks like tons of fun... but I have yet to start surf fishing.

How long does it takes to reel in 500 yds of line with a 2.1 gear ratio (Penn Senator)? I've never used a reel before

If you are near on OI or on one of the ramps from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Inlet I guess you could find a spot where there weren't many people around and anchor the kite line to your trailer hitch. From Rod in holder make several wraps around the hitch...enough to secure the kite with no slippage. I am clueless on what to do on a jetty. I would love to see someone try this at the point in November or the Spring. I imagine the guys would be all over the message boards the next day.

Yes i myself have done this many times before ,,, no pending on the location such as jetties and or piers Boats maybe a problem as we have got caught up in them many of times,,, now as for anchorin the rods down 2 things ya can do find a nice spot where you can wedge a pvc or any kind of pipe down where you cant spike it or you can build ya self a pipe anchor with concrete and have a pipe in the midle of that ,,,, if ya from the beach you can use the racks on your truck if you have them or what we use on the piers is our Pier carts. Hope this helps
