Well I just got back from 8 days in heaven and it was a weird trip. Kind of a trip with two halves. The weather to start was a bit bumpy as the winds were 10-15 kts creating 2-3 with a moderate chop on the reef and 3-5 with an occassional 6 and chop on that! August 6 was opening day for lobster season and till then little to write about as the inshore and offshore bite was off. Well, the lobster weren't helping either. The fisrt few days it was slim pickings in our usual spots and word elsewhere was the same. Then came Sunday. It was like the week just had to reset and then game on! I took my Atlantic/Gulf intolerant wife out to the Isla humps and it was a bit choppy but she was doing great really. Suddenly, it was like she was being paid off from up above for being a tropper out there. A hook up! A nice football about 28" was brought to the boat while she navigated, and well I might add! The lines went back out, riggers set and 10 minutes later, Zzzzing! The line starts peeling again! From 5:30PM to 6:15Pm we pulled in 5 blackfin all nice footballs and decided that since my arms had become near noodles we leave a few for the others out there! It was fun!
Then came Tuesday! We found the lobster! Within 1 hour we limited out. I can't say exactly how many of us but Wednesday it was the same!
good trip. what boat were you on? If you saw the Gold Reserve while you were out on the Hump, you likely saw me working in the pit. we've been averaging around 10-20 blackfin in a few hours of working the rip back and forth. some nice footballs (10#+) showing around the edges of the hump now
LOL! I was on my boat. A 26' CC Pusuit. I didn't see your boat and in fact all the boats when I was out there were all private boats and numbered 3-5 boats at any given time. Pretty much the rips were the spots and it wasn't too hard to identify where they were beween the birds and the machine.
So my friend and I just got a place at the 95th largo and I just got a 33' intrepid. Any spots you care to share to drift and troll around to plug in my gps?
