The Islamorada Fishing Clubs’ 8th Annual Captains Cup Sailfish Tournament results
December 10, 2010
The Islamorada Fishing Clubs’ 8th Annual Captains Cup Sailfish Tournament held December 16th was a fun and successful event this year. Under blustery winds and rainy seas, there were 85 hook ups all tolled. “We were thrilled with the attendance this year. We were able to sign up 16 boats, holding 60 anglers. There were 67 sailfish releases” said tournament chairman Dianne Harbaugh. “Given this economy, the Islamorada Fishing Club was proud to be able to attract even more anglers this year. We felt that allowing 4 anglers per boat as opposed to two per boat in the past was just the right mix to get more folks on board.”
The Grand Champions received the check for $25,000.00, paintings created by Pasta Pantaleo, sponsored by Caribee Boat Sales and Yamaha Outboards, and also received an IGFA offshore Champions entry in the 2011 tournament. Anglers Kevin Clark of Islamorada, Sam Worden of Traverse City, MI, Frank Juliano of Key Largo and Hunter Barron of Tavernier, were on board the Wet Dream with Champion Captain sponsored by Mercedes Benz Cutler Bay Glen Miller, and Champion Mate sponsored by TIB Bank George Clark. The boat released a total of 9 sailfish.
Second Place, sponsored by Ivory International and ESPN Outdoors were anglers Steve and Cindy Orton of Coral Springs, Jill Clark of Islamorada, and Freddie David of Hollywood, Fl. They were on board the My Sea Cin with Captain Randy Towe and Mate Jose Scavuzzo. The boat released a total of 7 sailfish.
Third Place, sponsored by Regan Insurance, went to anglers Brian Deveries of Grand Rapids, MI, Chris Jones of Islamorada, Jesse Leboeuf of Tavernier and Dave Munning of Harbor Island, Bahamas. They were on board the Challenger2 with Captain Rob Dixon and Mates Jessie Leoboeuf and Chris Jones. The boat released a total of 6 sailfish.
“We are pleased with the local and international involvement in our tournament. Our January tournament is already filling up. This is a world class event with loyal and determined anglers. These folks are competitive and want the prestigious recognition attached to this tournament.” said tournament director Dianne Harbaugh.
