Inaugural Florida Keys Survivor Tournament Set for March 10-13

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Three fishing days, three species and only one survivor sum up Islamorada’s newest backcountry charity challenge, the Florida Keys Survivor Tournament, slated for Thursday through Sunday, March 10-13.

Teams of two anglers are to compete with a randomly paired opposing team each day by measuring their three largest redfish, bonefish and snook. Winners of each match-up “survive” to compete in the next round of competition the following day.

Tournament registration and a kick-off party that includes dinner are set for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Islamorada Fish Company, mile marker (MM) 81.5.

On the next three days, anglers are to leave the dock at the Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar, MM 81.9 bayside, at 6:30 a.m. Lines-out is to be called at 3 p.m. each day, followed by dockside activities at the Lorelei.

Non-survivors are to continue competition in a non-survivor division.

Trophies and awards await anglers in both divisions at an awards banquet following Sunday’s fishing.

The Florida Keys Survivor Tournament is presented by Casting For Cats, a charity and volunteer organization dedicated to the welfare of cats in the Upper Keys. Tournament proceeds benefit the Casting For Cats organization as well as other local charities.

Entry fee is $425 per team. Registration is limited to 40 teams.
