If Youre Lookin
If youre lookin to find where "they" were today don't look to me to have the answer. If you wanna know where they weren't I can help you right out...
Left out of PBI first light... The forecast missed the mark by a lot. Instead of 2 feet at 4 seconds it was 4 feet and 2 seconds... Straight head on sea made for a bumpy run but here the runs are short usually. Have fished plenty of day s where conditions were tough but I can't remember weed as bad as he had today.
It was on the beach, in a hundred, 200 and all the way out past 1100 feet. We tried running both north and south and it never gave up the ghost. At some point we had to give up running and at least try to fish. It was a constant battle. Nothing formed up, no big mats, no debris, just scattered hell. As we plowed our way through I remembered why I don't fish local in the summer much. It sucks.
There was a narrow ribbon between three hundred and four hundred maybe a mile long that was kind of weed free and high speeders in ther had picked off a wahoo or maybe two. Another guy found a palate and boxed a good dolphin and a couple tripple tail. We did manage to find some schoolies in the hay field in 600 and had a small billfish (probably a sail) at 400 blow up on a rigger bait but never got a good crack at it...
The weed as bad as it was was only part of the problem. Thunderstorms popped up early so we had to weave between and around them. The clincher though was the heat. Index around 115 was too much for my missus and her friend. Who am I kidding for me too. Tourney or no tourney we pulled the plug and pointed her back to the beach. So its an "Oh well kind of day" but they happen too...
