Hot Snapper Bite

Had one of the best days snapper fishing yesterday. Finally, the gulf was calm and the air was warm. We headed out to a small ledge in 65 ft, hoping to catch a nice red grouper before the season closes. After about 45 min without any takers, tried freelineing a shrimp back behind the boat. What started out as a grouper trip, turned into 3 hours of yellowtail and mangrove snapper catching, The four of us boxed 30 mangroves to just under 18in and 10 yellowtails to 17in. Had to have caught 60 or so just keeping the larger ones releasing the rest. There were snapper swimming all around the boat when we left,hope they hang around for the next time.
