Hefty $25,000 Prize Awaits Winner of IFC Sailfish Tournament

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys -- The winner of the Islamorada Fishing Club's 2011 Sailfish Tournament, set for Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 26-27, may take home a $25,000 cash prize or even more.

The $25,000 is guaranteed if 25 boats register for the boat tournament. An additional $1,000 is to be added to the prize money for each boat registering after the first 25, up to a limit of 30 boats. Therefore, the total cash payout could reach $30,000.

The tournament kickoff is to be held Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the club, located at mile marker 82 bayside. Registration and cocktails are set for 6-7 p.m., followed by a rules meeting and dinner.

Fishing takes place Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All boats must return to the dock by 5:30 p.m.

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are to be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards.

The tournament is the final leg of the three-tournament Florida Keys Gold Cup Sailfish Championship, which also includes the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament and the Jan. 20-22 Cheeca Lodge Presidential Sailfish Tournament.

Gold Cup Championship awards are to be presented at the club Thursday, Jan. 27, following the Islamorada Fishing Club Sailfish Tournament.

Entry fee for the sailfish challenge is $2,500 per boat for a two-angler team. Additional social tickets can be purchased at the club for $85 per person.
