Well, we had a great weekend aboard the Viking Superstar, and the grouper cooperated. Here is my Captains report from the weekend...
With a loaded boat of eager fishermen aboard, we headed out Friday night at 8:00pm and started fishing at 3:00am. The first couple of spots produced a handful of Red Groupers, some mangrove snappers, and scamps. As daybreak came, the gags started biting! We had numerous stops in the first couple of hours with gags and large red groupers flying over the rails. A little after noon, the bite finally slowed down, so we bounced around catching some porgies, mangos, and scamps. For sundown, we headed over to a wreck and it was LOCK AND LOAD!! Large gags and some Red Groupers, (including the pool winner) were landed. Also, we raised a Goliath grouper as well. We hung out there until after dark and picked up a few more mangos, lane snappers, and vermillion snappers. After that, we headed back to the Grounds, were the snapper fishing started off slow, then got better and better, however, they did not cooperate as well as they normally do. Whenever they started biting good, the porpoises would come and steal them!! The next morning, we caught a few more gag and red groupers, as well as Jacks.
**On a side note, we caught and released American Red Snappers at EVERY single stop we made!**
:eek3: :bang:
Marty Grasso of Spring Hill, FL was the lucky pool winner with a 24 lb RED grouper (he also had 6 gags, another Red Grouper, and a full stringer of mangos). Dan Baxter of Davenport, FL took the snapper pool with a FAT 8.8 pound mango, and Tim Verh took the AJ pool with a 25 pound AJ he jigged off a wreck. Thanks to everyone for all the fun! :usa: :usa: :usa: :toast: :toast:
