Team De-Bait-Able, owned by Michael Walsh and captained
by Eric Soderholm, came through on an electrifying final day to win the prestigious Sailfish Cup.
Team De-Bait-Able caught and released 20 sailfish to take home $155,940 in winnings from the richest fishing
tournament in Miami, hosted by the World Fishing Tour.
High Standards, the leaders after the first day of the two-day tournament with 13 sails, also released 20 sails
overall but was just two minutes behind Team De-Bait-Able. Still, High Standards lived up to their name and
left with $77,700 in total winnings. Team Sandman, owned by Sandra McMullen, moved up the standings on
the final day as well to secure third and earn $64,720 in total winnings.
In all, 261 sails were caught and released by more than 30 competitors from Nov. 16-17 for a
total purse of more than $340,000.
The day before the tournament was the Captain’s Meeting and Kick-Off Party at the beautiful South Beach
Marriott Parkview Terrace. Attendees, including some of America’s most powerful executives and celebrities,
enjoyed delicious Cuban catering and top-shelf open bars while mingling with friends and rivals. The festivities
included an exclusive wine and cigar tasting at Texas de Brazil sponsored by Silver Oak Cellars and Gurkha
Cigars.
Following the first day of fishing was an evening of remembrance, philanthropy and celebration as Mike
Helton, the Honorary Chairman and President of NASCAR, hosted the Sailfish Cup Award’s Gala with silent
and live auctions benefitting The NASCAR Foundation and Speediatrics, a racing-themed pediatric unit.
In just three short years the Sailfish Cup has raised over $440,000 for The NASCAR Foundation, Speediatrics
and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.
