Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report 08/14/09

We had six guys on an all day charter today. They were not very interested in catching kingfish and bonito so we caught some live ballyhoo and headed offshore in search of mahis. We got to the blue water about seven miles out and started looking for a weed line or debris. We kept heading out but didn't see anything to fish to. We got to the sword grounds and made a couple of day drops but no bites there. We started working our way back and finally found a small tree floating. We stopped on that and caught two mahi and a wahoo. We worked the area but didn't get any more bites. They had a good time just being out on the water despite the slow fishing. I am sure we would have caught a lot more fish if we had stayed inshore, but they wanted to go mahi fishing.
