Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report 07/22/09

We had six people on a morning charter today. We started the trip trolling. The kingfish and bonito were biting good but the customers wanted to try for something big. They had already caught most of the game fish that we get here but never tried shark fishing. We caught enough kingfish and bonito to use for bait then went shark fishing. We shark fished for over an hour before something started chewing on the bottom bait. We watched the rod twitch for a minute then the line went slack. We wound on the reel and ran the boat ahead but whatever it was didn't get the hook. We set the mid bait down to the bottom to see if the fish might find it and try again but no such luck so we headed back to the dock.

Mostly we catch hammerhead and sand bar sharks. There are other species that bite from time to time but those are the main ones here.
