The Florida Flatsfishing Association’s 4th Annual fish-off and awards ceremony was held on October 2nd at Capt. Hiram’s in Sebastian. The twenty top teams along with thirteen other teams that were eligible to take part in the fish off had a perfect day to go out and catch their heaviest combination of one trout and redfish.
After the weigh-in was completed, we had our first, second and third place winners in the fish off.
Peter Deeks and Robert Rohmann of Merritt Island finished in first place with a 5.33 lb. trout and a 5.72 redfish, giving them an aggregate weight of 11.05 pounds which earned them the first place fish-off trophy and a $1,000.00 store card to The Back Country in Vero Beach.
Coming in at second place was the team of Kyle Walters from Melbourne and Vince Worbington from Vero Beach. They weighed in a 3.25 lb. trout and a 6.99 lb. redfish, good for an aggregate weight of 10.24 pounds. That weight earned them the second place fish-off trophy and a $500.00 store card to The Back Country in Vero Beach.
Third place belonged to the team of Ryan Tucker and Scott Funnell from Vero Beach. They brought in a 5.94 lb. trout and a 3.71 lb. redfish for an aggregate weight of 9.65 pounds. Their aggregate weight helped them secure the third place fish-off trophy and a $250.00 store card for The Back Country in Vero Beach.
All three winning teams were in the top-20 and only three other aggregate weights were recorded for the day.
Scott Lockhart and Darren Frost from Melbourne weighed in an aggregate weight of 8.62 lbs.
Jack Bullers of Fort Pierce and Steve Spangler of Vero Beach turned in 7.48 lbs. of aggregate weight.
