Florida Flatsfishing Association – 2nd “Junior Angler Only” Tournament Results
Florida Flatsfishing Association – 2nd “Junior Angler Only” Tournament Press Release.
Release date: August 23, 2010
BY: Capt. Jeff Brauer, FLFA Executive Director
On August 21st, the Florida Flatsfishing Association held their second free “Junior Angler Only” tournament out of the Dockside Grille in Vero Beach. The tournament was held strictly for kids of “15 and under” to compete for prizes such as “most species caught, most fish caught and the ugliest fish caught.”
27 junior anglers registered for the tournament on August 20th at Riverside Café in Vero Beach, with the tournament check-in being moved across the river to Dockside Grille on Saturday. “We decided to move Saturday’s festivities across the river out of respect to the family of Indian River County Assistant Fire Chief Brian Nolan due to a gathering at Riverside Café after the services” said FLFA executive director Capt. Jeff Brauer.
Notable junior anglers include Colin Willis (10) from Sebastian as he won the “Most Species Caught” trophy for catching 13 different species starting at 6:00am with the weigh-in between 11:00am and 1:00pm. JJunior angler Trenton Brauer (14) from Vero Beach captured the "Biggest Fish Award" after he pulled in a 5 and a half foot Bull Shark while fishing with Capt. Paul Dritenbas in the Indian River North of Harbor Branch."
All junior anglers that participated walked away with some pretty good prizes for whatever they caught that day, and learned a little more about conservation as all fish that were brought to the scales were released back into the water” stated Capt. Jeff Brauer.
Junior angler Alex Gahn (5) of Fort Pierce stretched out his lead on the competition fishing with Jim York of Fort Pierce by winning the “Most Fish Caught” award with 66 total fish he caught! “You can do wonders and put a big smile on a kids face with a sabiki rig…”
