Florida Flatsfishing Association
SEPTEMBER 2009 NEWSLETTER
Here is the news for the Florida Flatsfishing Association, September 2009… Item #1 Congratulations go out to the first 20 anglers that are locked into their slots for the end of season fish off! Those 20 anglers are locked into a position in the fish off now can concentrate on working on their individual species for the species 1st, 2nd & 3rd place payouts at the end of the season. The 2nd half of the FLFA season is wide open for anglers to make it into the “21 to 40 slots” for the end of season fish off! We have 7 anglers that are tied right now, so it’s going to be an interesting 2nd half with three tournaments left in the season! Item #2 Next tournament up has been moved. It will now be held as the “Riverside Café Inshore Tournament” on September 11th & 12th at the Riverside Cafe in Vero Beach. The “FLFA IS RUNNING THIS ONE”, so “no problems/issues will be experienced” like we had last year… Hopefully a lot of you anglers have been doing some “experimenting” in that part of town and south, and will be ready for this venue… Remember, 2 tournaments in September. On the 25/26th, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Gifts of Generosity Tournament will be held at Loggerhead Club & Marina in Grand Harbor, in Vero Beach! Awesome vacations to the winners! Item #3 The board members have been feverously working on “tuning up” the 2010 circuit series into an even better venue by revamping a lot of the formats of the circuit. For the last 2-months we have been looking at all of the suggestions from all of the series anglers from over the last year on the direction you would like to see the FLFA move. 10 series anglers are partaking in reviewing drafts of the 2010 FLFA circuit series formats and rules, with some very good recommendations! If you feel left out in the decision process, don’t be. We will be sending out questionnaires to ALL that are signed up for the FLFA newsletter for you to fill out and e-mail back to us, so watch your emails towards the end of September… Item #4 The first FLFA junior angler tournament that we held in June was a blast! 41 kids got a chance to get out on the water and finally fish for anything that they wanted to possibly catch! ALL of the 41 junior anglers were winners in this one, receiving trophies and prizes for what they caught. We are seriously looking at organizing two during the summer break in 2010, but we need sponsors for these tournaments as they are free to the kids! Thank you FLFA Anglers Connie Willis of the Sebastian Fishin’ Chics and Capt. Paul Dritenbas of EDB Architects for sponsoring the junior angler trophies! Also, FLFA angler John Dobbins took a lot of his winnings from the 1st half of the season and supplied us with all of the Shakespeare rod & reel combos, the X-Tools, and a bunch of tackle that was given away to the kids! All anglers need to keep a close eye on their rankings/totals on the “Rankings Page” of the FLFA website. If you haven’t been there yet, you should. This is how the winners are determined by what is on that web page… So, check your totals! Don’t forget about the sanction points that you get “just for fishing in a tournament.” Refresh your memory and read the rules on the website regarding “Earning FLFA Series Points” Feel free to e-mail any of us with ANY of your questions for the 2009 series at – myflfa@yahoo.com See you at the next tournament!
